Website

When it came to making a website I had absolutely no clue what to do or where to start. So I thought I would have a look at other websites to see what I liked, I was torn between really exiting busy websites and simple ones.

At first I asked a graphic designer to help me make a website and it was really busy with lots of graphics features. It also didn’t focus on a specific type of photography it was more about weddings and food photography where I wanted to showcase the product still life side to my work.

I decided to bin that website and started at looking at site builders so I could try and do it myself. I had started making a couple so I could decide what one I liked the most and which was easiest to use. I had asked a couple of people what one they thought was working well and I chose to carry on with the wix sight builder.

Once I had got going with building my website I wanted to check that I looked okay when using a mobile. It looked completely different but it was easy enough to change it around so it suited me.

I have experimented a lot on how I want my website to look but I think for now I have kept it very simple there are a few things I will carry on trying to change but I think for now I am fairly happy with it.

The things I would change is that when you click on an image I would rather the background to be white rather than black but I haven’t been able to find the function on wix to change it so for now I am going through my images and making sure they have white boarders to stand out against the black but this is going to take a bit of time. But once its done all the images will be the same size and will load on the page better.

Gifs

I wanted to have a go at making gifs because I kept seeing them pop up at in the corners of web pages as adverts, promoting more than one outfit in the same space. I had a go at looking on gif building web pages, as I had no idea how I would go about making one. But they would have their logo on and it would be really poor quality. I decided I would try and make it from scratch in Photoshop I simply Googled  ‘how to make a gif on Photoshop?’ and it gave me step by step instructions. I made them to possible have on my website once it's up and running.

Job Search

I know I ant to apply for studio jobs doing product photography. I was a bit worried about starting to look for jobs as you here so much negativity towards art degree jobs. But when I actually started as long as I can drive or don’t mind re locating, which I can do both there are jobs available. I don’t mind at first what kind of photography job I get, as long as it’s going in the direction I want to be heading in. I think for now although I have got experience in doing paid photography it’s not enough or in the right area for studio still life.

Previous paid work in the studio

Duck Rabbit

I had wanted to try a bit of filming to widen my skills set. I had heard of duck rabbit and had decided to have a look at the kind of work they produce. It looked really well done but simple. So I set myself up in the studio, I had written myself a script and got the lighting focused on a classmate ready to start filming. I pressed start and sat in the chair, everything I said sounded so un natural and I didn’t know where to look. So I tried again but this time I stood behind the camera to feel more relaxed, but I was still getting mind blocks where I didn’t know what to say even though I had the words written down in front of me. I thought I could edit it and add pictures for a visual but it was to hard with the amount of pauses I did. I think I will defiantly try it again but think of a different way to film it so it looked more exiting.
