Hi everyone, just to let you know their was no other additional cost to the exhibition costs insurance wise. so for all the people that I got a yes from the other week the price is still £20 deposit and a further £43 to be paid a month in advance. We are currently looking at booking it from the 10th till the 17th one day setting up and one day taking down. (We can also sell work and they don't take a commission) CHING CHING!
Accommodation and transport is down to you to arrange for yourself, but if anyone is interested after a pro studies lesson we could all have a look and book a hostel together for those who don't have places to stay down their. Also the Mega bus is really cheep it's looking around £10 or if you book a Grand Central train 3 months in advance you can find £30 deals.
As for taking prints down there, I am going to be taking all mine in a suite case and back pack. So it's up to on how you want to get them down there.
So if we could get final definite yes's we can give a final price and collect the deposits on wednesday. So if it's a YES from you let us know by leaving a comment.

Can I remind everyone the deadline is THIS WEDNESDAY for the London exhibition deposit. Can you PLEASE confirm ASAP, for those of you who haven't already, as this will determine the final price. The more people- the cheaper it is. Thanks

These were the emails sent out in the Facebook group, as it was the most convenient way to contact people as Facebook is checked more than emails. Me and the other student rep had various phone calls with the owners of the gallery space to make sure insurance was cover, if there was someone to watch our work, if a commission was taken if there were any photos sold and if we could have music and a projector up throughout the day.

Artist Statement

I am a studio still lift photographer that has concentrated on working with fashion products whilst in my final year at university. I spend the majority of my time working in the studio arranging new set ideas and working out what lighting techniques are going to work best for the particular style. My goal is to make the products look as interesting and desirable as possible and i'm always wanting to try out new ideas. I have had experience at working with Capture One in the studio and enjoy working tethered. As well as working with Capture One from my own work I have been able to learn more in working with Photoshop to enhance the images as well as retouching.

Alamy

Something that I’m defiantly going to be considering before I leave university is to sign up to Alamy. Alamy is a stock library where I can sign up for a discounted student fee to sell my images. All that is needed is for me to double check sizes and quality for them to then post out my photos on there webpage to sell for me whilst taking a commission after my first year where they don’t take a commission.

I wanted to double check to see if it would be worth my signing up as most of my work is product photography and by putting in a key word in the search bar (product) it came up with pages of relevant images. And by adding more key words it filters out the about of related images.

USBs

I had been thinking about how I wanted to send my work out to clients, other than online.  I usually put the images onto a CD but I was think how could I present it in a professional manner. This is when I thought about having personalised USB sticks made with my logo on. I started by looking around on the internet at what deals I could find, most of the companies would only sell them in batches no little than 50 USBs.

I requested for some quotes and most companies got back to me within 30 minutes. I even had a sample pack sent out to me for free to give me and idea of the range of sticks and boxes they do.

But for now buying in bulk would be a bit too expensive, but would defiantly be something I would consider when I get off my feet and start earning. So for now I thought I would have a look to see if anywhere would do smaller amounts of USB sticks for example 5 rather than £50 to see what the comparison in price would be. The only problem when looking to get one done or a small amount you get less choice of what you want it to look like.

After doing a bit of research I think I am going to wait to buy in bulk, as it’s a huge saving in the long run.

Insurance

Simply Business quotes

It is important to have public liability insurance if photographing on a location shoot where a member of the public could trip over kit and claim against your business.  When looking on insurance sights it will always give you options to be covered for other insurance claims such as Employers’ liability and Professional indemnity. The more you want the more expensive it will be per year. So by clicking them all and racking up a huge bill at the end, think about what your business will be doing and what you will most need the protect your business. For example I wouldn’t need employability insurance but Professional indemnity would be a good thing to have, as I am only a small business getting started and having a claim against me not providing the images the client has requested would be a major costly problem if not insured.

Compere the market quotes

At the moment I only having a couple of jobs booked I was looking for something a bit cheaper until I have left university and got a bit of money behind me. I thought about paying per month but jobs keep coming up and being booked throughout the year so it would work out cheaper by buying it for the year. I had to think how to make it cheaper, by looking at different comparison websites and just going for public liability insurance and making sure I back up the work straight away in three places I could find an affordable insurance.

Invoice

This was my first ever attempt at sending out an invoice, at the time I thought it looked pretty good. But a few years on and looking at official invoices and templates it’s clear it looked rather amateurish.

I didn’t really have a clue how an invoice should be set out, so I started having a look online for a bit of help. I found a free website called Fresh Books that had a professional template that I could fill in and add a logo. It also emails the client the invoice and lets you know when they’ve seen it.
